Press Release March 12, 2009 CHIZ RANKED SECOND IN PULSE ASIA SURVEY Sen. Francis "Chiz" Escudero ranks number two in a list of possible presidential candidates for the 2010 presidential elections based on the latest Pulse Asia survey. The nationwide survey, which covered the period Feb. 2-15, indicated also that there would be no clear winner in the presidential polls if they were held today. "It's definitely flattering but I am not yet a declared candidate," he stressed. Escudero, who turns 40 in October, had a rating of 17%. The others in the top four are Vice President Noli de Castro, who headed the list but saw a decline in percentage points at 19%, former president Joseph Estrada at 16%, and Sen. Manny Villar at 15%. Sen. Loren Legarda registered 12%, while Sen. Mar Roxas had 8%. "Whatever surveys may say, I believe it is the people who will ultimately decide on election-day. Meantime, we must do what we have to do as a legislator," he said. Pulse Asia research fellow Dr. Ana Maria Tabunda noted that the top four in the list of presidential candidates had "nearly the same overall voter preferences." Escudero is a former three-term representative of the first district of Sorsogon. He also received the second highest number of votes during the last senatorial elections in 2007. |
