KIKO PANGILINAN TO PNP: STOP CRIMINALITY AND LAWLESSNESS

Independent Senator Francis 'Kiko' Pangilinan today expressed outrage over the 'apparent breakdown in the law and order situation across the nation."

Pangilinan made the statement in reaction to the recent killing of Department of Agriculture Cagayan regional executive director. Gumersindo Lasam was on his way to his farm when two motorcycle-riding men gunned him down.

"We are sounding like a broken record calling on the PNP and the justice system to go after those who with impunity commit murder and dastardly acts of lawlessness, but it seems we are losing the war against criminality," said Pangilinan.

Lasam's ambush came after just last month's killing of Undersecretary Ramon Aquino of the Department of Public Works and Highways. Aquino was shot in broad daylight.

"There are no fresh approaches, there are no new methods being presented by the PNP to address the apparent breakdown in the law and order situation across the nation," Pangilinan adds.

The senator also expressed concern over the rise of kidnap for ransom cases, the alleged death squads in Mindanao and Davao, rape and murder cases in Visayas, and corruption and assassinations in Luzon and throughout the nation.

"We don't convict and punish enough, and those who are punished are set free. More and more we must all search for real change in governance."
