PRESS STATEMENT OF SENATOR CHIZ ESCUDERO

ON CHA-CHA'S IMMINENT DEMISE

I laud Congressman Luis Villafuerte for taking the right path by bringing an end to his efforts to change the Constitution at this time.

As I have said, any attempt to do so will only be seen as a desperate and selfish attempt by this administration and its cohorts to extend their stay in power after June 30, 2010.

I urge Congressman Villafuerte to take the lead in enlightening his partymates so that they may also change course and focus instead on crafting measures that will ease the people's plight during these very difficult times.

But until the lady in the Palace and the Speaker in the House sing the same tune as the gentleman from Camarines Sur, the people should continue to remain vigilant and ready to stop any sneaky attempt to do the Cha-cha now.

ON LOZADA'S REFUSAL TO SETTLE CASE WITH MIKE DEFENSOR

I cannot blame Rodolfo "Jun" Lozada for rejecting an amicable settlement of the perjury case filed against him by former presidential chief of staff Michael Defensor.

The former secretary has refused to heed my call for him to withdraw the complaint. Let us therefore leave the court to decide on the merits of this case without pressure from any source. I call on the Palace to drop all other complaints aimed at harassing Jun Lozada and his wife. They and their children have suffered long enough.

I urge Jun Lozada to remain steadfast in his fight against corruption and abuse of power in high places. The truth will out and it will set him free.
