REVILLA COMMENDS HONEST PINAY IN HK,
URGES DFA, OWWA ASSISTANCE

In recognition of her irrefutable honesty, Senator Bong Revilla commended the 38-year-old jobless Filipina in Hong Kong who returned cash and checks worth P2.1 million, at the same time urged the Department of Foreign Affairs (DFA) and the Overseas Workers Welfare Administration (OWWA) for possible assistance.

Revilla filed Senate Resolution 1112, to express the Senate's commendation to Mildred Perez, the unemployed Filipina in Hongkong who found an envelope containing cash and four checks, with a total amount of HK$350,545 or equivalent to P2.1 million. Defying temptation, Perez returned the envelope to its rightful owner.

The senator stressed that it is only proper that Perez receive high admiration from the Senate as it always pay tribute to outstanding Filipinos for giving pride and honor to the country.

"The act of honesty demonstrated by Mrs. Perez is very much commendable considering her personal circumstance as unemployed due to her pending assault case against her former employer. Hong Kong laws bar complainants from working until such time the case is finally resolved," said Revilla.

The lawmaker added that even though Perez badly needs money to support the studies of her children who were forced to drop out of school and to pay for the renewal of her visa and removal of a growing clump of flesh on her head, she still decided to return the envelope.

"Acts such as this demonstrates the integrity of Filipinos, not only in the Philippines but also in the international community. Mrs. Perez is truly a pride of the nation," he said.

Revilla wrote to DFA Secretary Alberto Romulo and OWWA Administrator Carmelita Dimzon to make necessary representations to assist Perez on her pending lawsuit against her former employer.

"I am appealing to your good office to extend any possible assistance we can give to Mrs. Perez. Your favourable and immediate action on the matter will be highly appreciated," said Revilla in his separate letters to Romulo and Dimzon.
