ROXAS TO HOUSE: GO AHEAD AND TASTE THE PEOPLE'S WRATH

Liberal President Senator Mar Roxas warned the House of Representatives that gloves are off when they push through with their plot to disfigure the 1987 Constitution through a 'solo flight' Constituent Assembly.

Roxas also defended former President Corazon Aquino from criticisms of Speaker Prospero Nograles, saying her Freedom Constitution upheld democratic principles of governance that led to the framing of the 1987 Constitution.

He concurred with President Aquino's description in Wednesday's anti-Charter change rally in Makati of the latest attempts of President Arroyo's allies to rewrite the Constitution as a "shameful abuse of power."

"Itong Con-ASSwang na pinaplano ng Kamara lalo na ng mga alipores ni GMA ay aaswangin ang ating demokrasya. Ang gusto ni GMA ay 'wag isali ang Senado at ang bayan sa Charter change dahil ayaw nilang pigilin natin ang term extension niya (This Con-ASSwang planned by GMA and his cohorts in Congress will destroy our democracy. GMA does not want to involve the Senate and the people to join in the debate on Charter Change because we will definitely stop this evil plot)," he said.

If GMA and her allies will press on with Con-ASSwang even if there is overwhelming opposition to it, then they face the people's wrath, Roxas warned.

"Sige, ituloy n'yo lang ang pambababoy sa Konstitusyon. Matitikman na talaga ninyo ang galit ng mamamayan (Go ahead with your plan to mutilate the Constitution, and you'll get to taste the people's wrath," Roxas said in response to the statement of the House leadership that they will push through with Con-Ass.

"Magbalot-balot na sila. Lalabanan natin sila (They better pack up and run for the hills. We will put up a fight)," he stressed.
