SEN. REVILLA'S STATEMENT ON THE TELCOS HEARING

I can not understand why Globe Telecoms and Smart Communications could not offer unlimited calls and text scheme to its subscribers on a very affordable monthly rate just like the 24/7 unlicalls scheme of Sun Cellular. The public has the right to know the mechanics on the transmittal of their messages through their cellphones to determine if they are not being shortchanged by their mobile service providers.

Basically, telcos have the same method of transmitting calls and text messages. I wonder why a single telco can give a longer period of unlimited calls and text services while the others cannot. I'm asking this in line of the responsibility of the telcos to the public which is a provision in their franchises. It must also be clear to the public how this interconnection works and why the telcos do not charge interconnection fees at similar rates.

Hindi makatwiran na puwersahin ng mga telcos ang mga subscribers nito na kumuha ng mga dagdag na serbisyo at promosyon gaya ng hindi hinihinging ring tones at wall papers. Dapat lang na sumunod sila sa ethics of honest enterprise dahil ito ay isang malinaw na kondisyon sa paggagawad ng prangkisa sa mga pribadong kompanyang nag-aalok ng serbisyo-publiko gaya ng telekomunikasyon.
