Enrile quizzes Coronacion on travel with PCGG's Sabio

After putting the heat on Presidential Commission on Good Government (PCGG) Chairman Camilo Sabio, Senate President Juan Ponce Enrile also trained his guns on Sabio's purported fellow jet-setter, Coconut Industry Investment Fund (CIIF) Milling Group president Danilo Coronacion.

In a letter dated June 25, Enrile asked Coronacion to explain in detail reports of his recent travel to Europe , allegedly in the company of Presidential Commission on Good Government (PCGG) Chairman Camilo Sabio and the latter's family.

"In the same way that I have formally asked Chairman Sabio to give a detailed account of his numerous travels abroad in the past years, including the recent one to Europe, I would also like to be informed of whatever arrangements you have made pertaining to the said trip or trips that you were previously a party of," Enrile told Coronacion.

Enrile had earlier warned Sabio that he will not hesitate to initiate a Senate investigation in the event that the PCCG official failed to adequately explain his numerous trips abroad since 2006, including the one he undertook with his family in Europe , which was reportedly paid for by CIIF.

The CIIF Milling Group, of which Coronacion is also chief executive officer, owns five coconut mills under PCGG sequestration.

The senate chief said he would like to know the names of persons who accompanied Coronacion in each travel, including family members, if any, the persons who approved the travel, "and the after-trip or accomplishments reports you submitted after every trip."

"More importantly, since the CIIF was organized to protect the interests of the coconut farmers, I would like to know whether the coconut industry and its stakeholders actually benefited from these travels in any way," wrote Enrile.

Enrile said he would like to know if all past presidents of CIIF traveled as often as Coronacion did, who approved such travels and why did they travel, considering that CIIF was not making money in the past years.

While Enrile has already been given by the Bureau of Immigration a list of Coronacion's departure and arrival in Manila from 2006 to 2009, the senator said he nonetheless wanted to be informed of the following:

Purpose of each travel, total number of days allotted for each travel, total costs incurred including airfare, accommodation, per diem and other incidentals, as well as the source of funds for each travel, "whether the expenses were charged to the CIFF or to your account."
