ANGARA: COMSTE TO HOST INTERNATIONAL RENEWABLE ENERGY & AGRICULTURE CONFERENCE TOMMOROW

Senator Edgardo J Angara, chair of the Congressional Commission on Science & Technology and Engineering (COMSTE), invites everyone to the International Renewable Energy & Agriculture Conference by COMSTE (REACCT) in Sofitel tomorrow September 3, 2009 and witness the momentous opening as the country shape its renewable energy industry in relation to the rest of the international community.

"The Philippines has finally passed the Renewable Energy Bill. Its passage could have not been any sweeter than now when calls are most urgent. We are very delighted to have achieved a significant inroad as our response to this challenge, to win our fight for a Green Revolution.," said Angara who sponsored the Philippine Renewable Energy Law.

He added, "Our local efforts, however, must be complemented by the fact that Clean Energy Initiative is a Global Initiative. In view of this, we must harness each country's potential and contribution. Philippines, as a country with great renewable energy potential, is a fitting host of this initiative and collaboration."

Angara, chair of the Senate Committee on Science and Technology, is referring to the International Renewable Energy & Agriculture Conference set to be held tomorrow 09:00am at Sofitel Manila. The Conference will be hosted by COMSTE.

The aim of the conference, according to Angara, is to find ways to leverage the new Renewable Energy Act, to create a domestic clean energy sector and create jobs in this arena.

Angara added that governments around the world are banking their stimulus plans to a big extent on cutting carbon emissions, pointing out that instead of thinking about clean energy as an expensive source of energy, people and governments now see it as a way to make profits and create new jobs.

"The Philippines, is said to have moved a step in the right direction with long-term solution of passing a comprehensive renewable energy law. But more importantly, it is a step towards sustainable growth, towards clean development," added Angara.

REACCT 2009 will draw participants from the academe, industry, investor, entrepreneur and media sectors as well as foreign guests. Angara hopes that this conference will create important linkages with countries that will allow us to work closely and speed up the deployment of clean energy sources in the country.
