Pia hits slow progress of Maguindanao massacre probe

"I am appalled that more than 48 have lapsed since the Maguindanao massacre, but the police and military have yet to yield initial results, invite suspects for questioning, or announce hot-pursuit operations. The perpetrators are armed, brazen and dangerous, but how come our authorities have hesitated to launch a full-scale manhunt against them or do a straight-up investigation? Are negotiations underway to protect powerful personalities? For a crime of this magnitude, the people expect no less than swift and decisive action from this government."

"When asked whether they have summoned the governor for questioning, the PNP reasons out that they are still 'collating evidence against anyone liable.' But what kind of evidence are they waiting for? They can proceed to investigate anyone who may have motive to do this gruesome act, and suspects have already been identified by no less than the victims' relatives and eyewitnesses. The PNP commits no crime in investigating all suspects! Or are they afraid of the powers-that-be that they can't even invite them for questioning? If the current investigators can't carry out honest-to-goodness police work, then they should step down and let more competent officials pursue an impartial and no non-sense investigation."
