Statement of Senator Mar Roxas, President of the Liberal Party, on the Revival of the Electoral Protest Case vs Bulacan Gov. Joselito Mendoza

The Liberal Party condemns the Decision of the Second Division of the Commission on Elections in the electoral protest case against Bulacan Gov. Joselito R. Mendoza as another blatant attempt of the Arroyo Administration to muzzle the Opposition and prevent its impending defeat in the coming elections.

This is expected since the Administration has been a prime example of wanton abuse of power and corruption during its nine years in government.

The LP calls on the COMELEC En Banc not to allow itself to be used as a tool of this corrupt government in thwarting the sovereign will of the people of Bulacan.

Governor Mendoza has been serving the people of Bulacan as governor for three years with no hint whatsoever of any probability of success of this case against him in the COMELEC as he was duly elected by the people of Bulacan during the May 2007 election. Suddenly, after his Partido Del Pilar decided to align itself with LP, the COMELEC Decision favoring known administration ally Roberto M. Pagdanganan was immediately promulgated.

This Administration is not content with the massacre in Maguindanao to stop the Opposition from gaining power in a clean and honest election. It wants total control so it can abort its defeat caused by its own corruption and abuse of power.

It's time for the people to stop this kind of abuse of power. I appeal to the Administration not to corrupt further the electoral process for its own ends.

Let the people's will prevail.

Sa mga taga-Bulacan, huwag kayong mag-alala. Hindi namin kayo pababayaan ni Noynoy Aquino. Lalaban tayo!
