Pia urges support for Maguindanao's first woman-governor

Senator Pia S. Cayetano today appealed to the Arroyo government to provide full support to the administration of newly-appointed Maguindanao Officer-In-Charge Governor Bai Nariman Ambolodto, the very first woman governor of the strife-torn province.

At the same time, Cayetano extended her best wishes to Ambolodto in her efforts to restore peace, order and normalcy to Maguindanao which is still reeling from the Ampatuan massacre and the declaration of martial law.

"I urge all national government agencies and for the police and armed forces to throw their full support behind the transition government of Governor Ambolodto as she leads her people on the path to rebuilding amid all the adversities," said Cayetano, the Chairperson of the Senate Committee on Social Justice.

"As a fellow woman public servant, I am aware of the many challenges that women leaders should overcome in the male-dominated world of politics and governance."

The President of the Committee on Women Parliamentarians of the Inter-Parliamentary Union, Cayetano likewise expressed admiration for the governor's decision not to seek any public post in next year's elections to enable her to focus on running the province's transition government.

"Governor Ambolodto's selfless gesture and commitment to serve her people should be emulated. We need more leaders like her, not only in Maguindanao, but all over the country."
