KIKO PANGILINAN DEFENDS AQUINO: "HE SIMPLY SAID THAT
HE WOULD NOT, IF ELECTED, TOLERATE ILLEGAL AND UNCONSTITUTIONAL ACTS"

Senator Francis "Kiko" Pangilinan backs Liberal Party standard bearer Senator Benigno "Noynoy" Aquino in the latter's statement regarding Malacañang's reported appointment of a new Chief of Justice.

"Senator Aquino said that if he is elected, he will not recognize an illegal appointment. We fully support his position. There is nothing presumptuous about this, and certainly not ill advised. Senator Aquino believes that a President should never tolerate illegal and unconstitutional edicts - and rightly so. How we wish we could say the same for the present occupant in Malacañang."

PGMA and her allies are bent on appointing a new CJ before the end of the President's term in office.

"All that Senator Aquino did was to say what a President ought to do should he be faced with an unconstitutional act. Obviously, Malacañang cannot understand this because for quite some time now, it has miserably failed to perform its constitutional duty, which is to uphold and defend the constitution and the rule of law."

"With the ZTE-NBN scandal, payola and the fertilizer scams hounding Malacañang, it is in no position to lecture us about respect for our courts, our constitution, and the rule of law."
