LP COMMITS TO 'PAGBABAGO AT PAG-ASA SA 2010" AS IT TURNS 64

The Liberal Party turns 64 on Tuesday with a grand celebration at the historic Club Filipino in San Juan that will showcase the formidable political force mustered by its leaders' calls for a strong campaign against pervasive corruption and transformation in Philippine society.

Strengthened by the strong response from Filipino voters to its message of change and transformative politics, the LP anniversary celebration will be led by its torchbearers and survey front-runners Sen. Benigno "Noynoy" Aquino III and Sen. Manuel "Mar" Roxas II.

Also attending the celebration will be the LP's "People's Reform" senatorial slate, which includes LP Chairman and former Senate President Franklin Drilon, Muntinlupa Rep. Ruffy Biazon, Bukidnon Rep. Teofisto "TG" Guingona, former Bukidnon Rep. Nereus 'Neric" Acosta, Akbayan Rep. Risa Hontiveros-Baraquel, former National Economic and Development Authority (NEDA) chief Ralph Recto, Sonia Roco of Aksyon Demokratiko, former Sen. Sergio Osmeña, detained Brig. Gen. Danny Lim, lawyer Alex Lacson, Dr. Martin Bautista and women's right advocate Yasmin Busran Lao.

It will also be attended by more than 700 candidates for local positions, including governors and mayors, prominent leaders of society and supporters from all walks of life.

The Liberal Party has given the nation three presidents and a long list of reputable public leaders, among them the late Sen. Benigno "Ninoy" Aquino, the late Sen. Gerry Roxas, and statesman former Senate President Jovito Salonga. It was founded in 1946 by the late President Manuel Roxas, grandfather of the Liberals' vice presidential candidate.

This year's celebration follows the theme "Pagbabago at Pag-Asa sa 2010", the campaign battle cries of both Aquino and Roxas.

The Liberal Party is committed to providing an alternative government to the people - a government dedicated to freedom and democracy and to the improvement of the quality of life of all Filipinos, especially the poor and disadvantaged.

"We make a commitment to always maintaining allegiance to the principles of individual freedom and human rights, pluralism and participatory democracy, equality of opportunity and social justice, rule of law and good governance, international solidarity and nationalism in all our political actions," the party's Vision states.
