MAKE CHINESE NEW YEAR SPECIAL HOLIDAY IN RP - ANGARA

Recognizing the great contributions of Chinese-Filipinos in the country, Senator Edgardo J. Angara has filed a bill seeking to declare the Chinese New Year a special non-working public holiday.

"The Chinese-Filipinos have made significant economic and societal contributions to the country in the form of employment generation, community service, trade and socio-economic programs," Angara said.

"In recognition of their great contributions and in observance of their valued tradition, I am pushing for the declaration of Chinese New Year as a non-working public holiday," he said, adding that this will further strengthen the relationship between the Filipinos and the Filipino-Chinese community.

Senate Bill 3569 mandates the Department of Labor and Employment (DOLE) to promulgate the rules and regulations of this act in consultation with the Federation of the Filipino-Chinese Chambers of Commerce and Industry, Inc.

Once enacted, the holiday will be in addition to the existing five special non-working holidays, 11 regular holidays and three nationwide special holidays listed under Republic Act 9492.
