Press Release February 22, 2010 PRESS STATEMENT OF SENATOR M.A. MADRIGAL ON REPORTS OF NO SECURITY MARKINGS FOR ARMM BALLOTS, MADRIGAL ISSUES CALL TO SCRAP AUTOMATION The report on the two million worthless pieces of ballots that were printed without the required security markings is again proof of the growing concern on the incompetency of the COMELEC to automate the elections in May. This report already raises a cloud of doubt on the sanctity of the ballot. No amount of explanation will remove this. As an independent presidential candidate whose interest solely is to ensure that the people's mandate is respected, my position is clear - scrap the automation of the election and go back to the manual system. The only person who will benefit from an automated system is the candidate of Gloria Arroyo. Let us not anymore allow the illusion that automation will clean the system. The problem is not the system, but the institution whom we are trusting to ensure this works. |
