Aquino commits to support Filipina women in celebration
of International Women's Day

Liberal Party presidential candidate Benigno Simeon "Noynoy" Aquino III pledged to make the concerns and needs of Filipina women an integral part of his administration should he win in the May polls.

According to Aquino, protecting women and promoting women's rights and empowerment is not just a moral and social obligation, but is also key to ensuring development that will benefit all Filipinos. Sen. Aquino said that his administration will take a comprehensive approach to integrating gender considerations in all levels of policy planning, development, implementation, monitoring and evaluation to ensure that government is meeting the challenges, concerns and needs faced by Filipina women. Furthermore, he said an Aquino administration will consider and address the special needs of impoverished, rural, indigenous and migrant women as well as women victims of violence, human trafficking, pornography, and conflict situations. "These issues that our women and children confront stems from widespread poverty," said Aquino, who is the son of the country's first woman president. "Ensuring the absence of corruption in governance and properly allocating taxpayers' money to social services would help eradicate the tendency of families to resort to such desperate measures.
