Villar bats for more summer jobs for youth

Nacionalista Party standard-bearer Sen. Manny Villar calls on the government and the private sector to provide jobs to fresh graduates and vacationing students as well as out-of-school youths this summer.

"There are government agencies that already offer summer jobs for the youth, the others should follow suit, so students and out-of-school-youths can have a productive summer vacation," said Villar.

The Department of Education (DepEd) and the Department of Labor and Employment (DOLE) are among top government agencies that regularly offer jobs during summer. But these departments have few job openings.

"We need to expand the youth summer jobs program and if needed government departments or agencies should channel funds for job creation every year. There are tens of thousands youngsters who need employment, not merely hundreds," said Villar.

According to Villar, even the private sector can help in providing jobs for the youth this summer.

"In fact, private companies are even more active in doing this. So we need to offer support also to these job providers, especially to entrepreneurs and small and medium businesses," added Villar.

The NP presidential bet said summer jobs will enable the youth to save up for their continued education and at the same time help their families cope with financial difficulties during tough economic times.
