LEGARDA GAINS MORE ALLIES IN ILOCOS AND PANGASINAN

Campaigning for the last two days in Ilocos and Pangasinan, NP-NPC-LDP vice presidential candidate Loren Legarda earned the support of the incumbent government officials and powerful political families in the region.

Former first lady Imelda Marcos and former Congresswoman Imee Marcos vouched for Legarda, joining her in her campaign activities in Ilocos Norte.

Former Ilocos Sur Governor Luis "Chavit" Singson also threw his support for Legarda.

Mayor Eva Medina of Vigan, Ilocos Sur likewise gave her endorsement.

The Ortega brothers of La Union - Governor Manuel Ortega, 1st district Congressman Victor Ortega, Mayor Pablo Ortega, Board Member Kit Ortega, Intelligence and Security Chief Bobby Ortega, and Congressman Pacoy Ortega - were all solid for Legarda.

In Pangasinan, Governor Amado Espino Jr. lauded Legarda for addressing climate issues and the need for disaster management, saying that Legarda was the first to respond during Ondoy and Pepeng. Legarda was also the first to raise the alarm for government's local fisheries units to monitor the water situation against fishkill in Pangasinan, which produces 60 percent of the bangus (milkfish) demand in Metro Manila.

Legarda was grateful for their endorsement, saying "it's a meeting of the minds because we share the same advocacies. I am encouraged even more by their endorsement."

"We all came from different political parties but we cross party lines to fight for the same ideals. This is more than a political endorsement but mutual respect and shared advocacies like climate change and other social issues like agriculture, education and health," said Legarda.
