Philippine Youth Climate Movement celebrates Earth Day with Loren

The Philippine Youth Climate Movement (PYCM), Senator Loren Legarda and Luntiang Pilipinas partner in joining more than one billion people in 190 countries that are taking action for Earth Day. PYCM President Esperanza Garcia thanks Loren for her support in PYCM's nationwide campaign to educate the youth on climate change and encourage young Filipinos to plant more trees to meet PYCM's 1-Million Tree Youth Challenge.

According to Loren, who chairs the PYCM, Earth Day 2010 can be a turning point to advance climate policy, energy efficiency, renewable energy and green jobs. It is a pivotal opportunity to gather individuals, corporations and governments to join together and make personal commitments towards sustainable development and a global green economy.

"Earth Day is a great opportunity to spread awareness of climate change issues to the youth, and engage them in different activities that protect the environment," said Loren. She emphasized the crucial role of the youth in environmental protection, and encourages them to become advocates of the environment. "Be a climate hero, and take up the environment as an advocacy. As heirs of our nation's wealth and heritage, the youth has a primary interest in protecting and conserving the environment. I encourage our young ones to become more aware of global warming, and participate in activities that help adapt to and mitigate its impact," Loren said.

Philippine Youth Climate Movement is an environmental youth network that unites and mobilizes young Filipinos towards environmental activism and responsiveness. Its main goal is to mobilize youth all over the Philippines to take action on Climate Change.

PCYM has recently expressed support for Legarda and her environmental protection campaign.
