CAN YOU TRUST BINAY? ASK ERAP, SAYS LP

Will you trust Jojo Binay? Ask Erap, who's been a victim of his back-stabbing in the just-concluded national elections.

This was the observation by officials of the Liberal Party (LP) following a statement of Makati Mayor Jejomar Binay that prospective presidential election winner Senator Benigno S. Aquino III will sleep soundly if he wins the vice-presidential race.

According to Senator Mar Roxas, the experience of former President Joseph Estrada with Binay speaks well if he could be trusted.

Estrada's camp is still bristling with the former President's experience with Binay because the Makati mayor betrayed his standard-bearer and pushed in the last two weeks of the campaign an Aquino-Binay tandem to harvest votes from Aquino's supporters.

Even Estrada, learning of this betrayal by Binay, dumped his running mate when he did not vote for a vice-president as captured by video footages and photos taken when he was casting his vote in San Juan City last Monday.

"If you have not been true to your candidate, how can you be trusted by other presidents?" asked Roxas in a live television interview.

As for the accusation of Binay that the LP is conducting purported special operations in Mindanao to rig the elections in favor of the LP bet, Roxas categorically denied that the party will resort to any immoral and crooked tactic just to gain power.

Roxas added that Binay's accusations were a product of his "malicious mind" and "black propaganda."

"That's sheer foolishness and a lie," Roxas insisted as he noted that the Aquino-Roxas tandem has been waging a campaign for good governance since the start of the campaign.

While the official canvassing for president and vice-president has yet to be conducted by Congress sitting as national board of canvassers, Roxas said that he will respect the decision of the electorate but added that there is no reason yet to celebrate as the ice-presidential race is too close to call.
