Pia gives P-Noy passing mark for 1st 100 days

Senator Pia S. Cayetano today gave President Benigno Aquino III passing marks for setting high standards in governance and for taking an independent stand on reproductive health during his first 100 days in office.

"President Aquino deserves credit for stressing accountability, transparency and austerity in governance, values which the previous administration sorely lacked," acknowledged Cayetano, a member of the minority bloc in the Senate.

"P-Noy showed his mettle by standing up to the Catholic Church on the issue of contraceptives," added the senator, an advocate of women's rights and health.

"His pledge to achieve our MDGs (Millennium Development Goals) by 2015 is also laudable. But this should be backed up with doable programs tied up to each MDG target, including PNoy's certification of the Reproductive Health Bill as urgent and putting more funds for reproductive health services in the countryside to address our high maternal deaths," she concluded.
