SEN BONG REVILLA CALLS ON THE SUSPENSION OF
FRANCHISES OF BUS DRIVERS AND OPERATORS

Those bus drivers and operators who are committing abusive acts in protest of the Metro Manila Development Authority's (MMDA) re-enacted policy on number-coding must be dealt with.

I condemn the manner of their protest where certain drivers deliberately spilled oil along EDSA, which put the lives of hundreds of pedestrians and motorists in danger. There were also reports that some operators would have their buses parked on EDSA to barricade traffic.

Likewise, I am asking the Land Transportation Franchising and Regulatory Board (LTFRB) to study the possibility of suspending the franchises given to the bus operators and drivers who participated in the mass action.

Napakarami namang gustong magka-prangkisa.

Having a franchise is a privilege, not a right, and their operations are imbued with public interest. They cannot unilaterally ignore and compromise public interest.
