SENATOR BONG REVILLA CONDOLES WITH TUGUEGARAO FIRE VICTIMS

First of all I would like to extend my deepest sympathy to the families of the fire victims in Tuguegarao. The fire, which took the lives of 15 individuals and injured several others including nursing graduates who had checked-in to take licensure exam exams, is terribly disheartening and frustrating.

Napakalaking kawalan ang isang buhay para sa isang pamilya, lalo na't kung ito'y inaasahang mag-aahon sa kanila sa kahirapan. Ang ganitong sakuna, na naganap ilang araw bago ang kapaskuhan, ay tunay na nakapanlulumo.

As one of the authors of the Fire Code of the Philippines (also known as R.A. 9514), I call on the fire authorities to closely look into this matter, whether violations have been committed and whether there was leniency as opposed to strict enforcement of fire-safety inspection requirements on the part of the city government.

This is a call to our local authorities for more rigorous and stricter conduct of regular inspections on buildings and even residential areas because these are the measures that would provide precautionary measures against fire hazards.
