BALER VISUAL ARTIST SLATED FOR EUROPEAN EXHIBITION

Baler artist Rigor B. Esguerra is joining a delegation of Filipino visual artists who will head to Europe for a series of exhibitions organized by the Kunst Gallery.

Esguerra, a Fine Arts graduate from the University of the East, held a preview of his works at the Bahia de Baler. Sen. Edgardo J. Angara, who graced the opening of the exhibit, praised Esguerra for his distinctly FIlipino motif.

"Filipino artistry can match up to the finest in the world. It is important that we support our aspiring talents because they will keep alive the best in us as a people through their art," he said.

The exhibit consists of acrylic paintings on canvas showing quintessential Filipino life. Esguerra depicts Filipinos in a way that reflects his own disposition in life: contented and joyous in spite of a myriad of challenges.

He portrays his subjects with wide eyes and warm smiles to show the most admirable qualities of Filipinos - friendliness, strength and resilience. His subjects' robust figure is symbolic of their enormous capacity for love and generosity.

Esguerra's works has been included in the collection Filipinism which will tour Europe in June. The exhibition will be simultaneously displayed in the Chelsea Gallery, London, United Kingdom on June 8-13; The Hague, Netherlands on June 9-11; Luxembourg on June 11; Bottrop Cultural Center, Germany on June 12; Essen, Germany on June 14-18; Frankfurt, and Germany on June 26-30.
