SEN. BONGBONG MARCOS SENDS AID FOR ALBAY, CAMSUR, CATANDUANES FLOOD VICTIMS

Senator Ferdinand "Bongbong" Marcos, Jr., responding to the adverse effects wrought by Tropical Storm 'Juaning', immediately sent relief goods like food and medicines to the provinces of Albay, Camarines Sur and Catanduanes where more than 100,000 families were affected by continued flooding due to days of continous heavy rains.

"I am saddened to hear and see in the various media the damage brought about by Tropical Storm 'Juaning' to the provinces of Albay, Camarines Sur and Catanduanes. It gives me undue grief to see our fellow Filipinos suffer from this devastation that claimed lives, loss of agricultural crops, means of livelihood and damage to limb and property." Marcos expressed to Governors Jose Clemente Salceda of Albay, Luis Raymund of Camarines Sur Villafuerte and Joseph Cua of Catanduanes

The senator likewise sent to Gov. Jose Salceda his deepest condolences for the untimely demise of Mrs. Cielo Avelina Salceda, mother of Gov. Salceda who met her untimely death due to a fatal fall at their residence in Polangui, Albay at the height of this unexpected weather disturbance.

Marcos, chairman of the Senate committee on local government, ordered the shipment to the said provinces boxes of assorted medicines and canned goods as his own way of providing humanitarian assistance to the affected families of the July 27 flash floods.

"Let me take this occasion to donate some medicines and relief goods to the people of Albay, Camarines Sur and Catanduanes to help them in this difficult period. May all the suffering victims safely return to their normal lives within the shortest possible time.," he added.

A province-wide state of calamity was declared in Albay which has over 100,000 evacuees coming from low-lying villages in Polangui, Libon, Oas, Ligao, Guinobatan,Daraga and Legazpi City. Similarly, the Catanduanes and Camarines Sur governors declared a state of clamity in their respective provinces literally submerged under flood waters due to unrelenting rains triggered by tropical storm Juaning. It will be recalled that last month, Marcos also dispatched humanitarian support for Davao city flood victims in response to the unexpected flooding that confronted some barangays in that city triggered by heavy rains in Southern Mindanao.

In previous calamities like the mudslides that hit some barangays in Tacloban City in Leyte, Sen. Marcos, a son of the province of Leyte, personally went to the city to distribute relief goods, together with Leyte Representative Ferdinand Martin Romualdez and City Mayor Alfred Romualdez, to the families who had been adversely affected by the flooding and landslides that hit the city last March 2011.
