Trillanes defends CIDG plunder case against ex-FG et. al.

Senator Antonio "Sonny" Trillanes IV expressed his full support for the Philippine National Police-Criminal Investigation and Detection Group's (PNP-CIDG) filing of a plunder case against former First Gentleman Jose Miguel "Mike" Arroyo and other retired and active police officials.

Trillanes came to the defense of the PNP-CIDG in light of criticisms from pro-administration senators.

"CIDG, through Director Pagdilao, did the right thing in filing a plunder case against Mike Arroyo and other police officials involved in the anomalous sale of two pre-owned helicopters in 2009," Trillanes said.

Trillanes said he understands the concerns of the other senators on the plunder case, but added it will be the Ombudsman who will have the final say on the appropriate charges that should be filed against the erring individuals.

"I understand the skepticism of my colleagues. They may have been traumatized by the white-washing tendency of the past administration. However, we must give the new leadership of the PNP the benefit of the doubt in their renewed efforts to stamp out corruption within their ranks," Trillanes explained.

"We must remember that the PNP now is under the leadership of PNoy, and I maintain full confidence in his sincerity to curb corruption," the young Senator added.
