PHL WELCOMES CHINESE INVESTMENT

Shantui, a world-renowned Chinese construction equipment manufacturer, has chosen the Philippines as the next location of its massive venture. Shantui unveiled its new cement mixers in a ceremony held on Tuesday at the SMX Convention Center.

Senator Edgardo J. Angara, who participated in the ribbon-cutting ceremony, said that the Philippines is ripe for such ventures.

"The arrival of such companies as Shantui heralds the Philippines' increased investment in infrastructure. As Asia continues to occupy a position of economic dominance, we in the country need to rise to the occasion and take our place among our neighbors," said Angara.

"There is so much space in the Philippines in which to build--our problem is that we do not have enough machinery and manpower," explained the veteran lawmaker. "We have the money; all we need to do is put an end to the government's underspending in order to boost infrastructure.

He continued, "By cooperating with business such as Shantui and utilizing the unspent funds of the government, we will be able to bring infrastructure projects to far-flung regions that will help energize tourism."

Angara underscored the importance of this investment. "We not only create more seaports, airports and access roads that help make our country a more viable place of investment; we also generate jobs for many Filipinos."

Shantui Corporation, originating from Shandong province in China, is in partnership with Stone Brothers. Shantui is the world's largest producer of bulldozers and is rated as one of the best places to work in China.
