Bacoor Rises as a City

In his Facebook account, Senator Ferdinand R. Marcos, Jr. congratulated the residents of Bacoor for the recently concluded plebiscite thus paving the way for its cityhood.

"Congratulations to the residents of Bacoor City, our latest addition to the League of Cities of the Philippines. The residents of Bacoor have spoken by an overwhelming vote of "YES" for the conversion of their town into a city in the just concluded plebiscite last June 23, 2012. Mabuhay ang Lungsod ng Bacoor," Sen. Marcos posted.

On December 2011, the Senate approved House Bill 4730, with a vote of 19-0 that sought to convert the municipality of Bacoor into a city. It eventually became Republic Act 10160 when it was signed into law by President Benigno Aquino III on April 11, 2012. As Chair of the Senate Committee on Local Government. Senator Marcos played a vital role in the passage of the bill.

In his Committee endorsement of the said Senate bill, Marcos stressed that Bacoor had met all the constitutionally mandated requirements to become a city. "It has a locally generated average annual income of at least 100 Million for the last two consecutive years, as certified by the Department of Finance. It has likewise complied with the population requirement of not less than 150,000 inhabitants, as certified by the National Statistics Office. And it has a contiguous territory of at least 100 square kilometers as certified by the Land Management Bureau," he said.

Senator Marcos believes that Bacoor's conversion will further boost its momentum of growth, further contributing to national development.
