Senate recognizes Metrobank Foundation awardees

Three resolutions were approved at the Senate today honoring outstanding policemen and policewomen, teachers and soldiers who were earlier cited by the Metrobank Foundation, Inc. for their exemplary work this year.

Senate President Juan Ponce Enrile lauded the passage of the resolutions, saying the awardees deserve to be cited for their dedication to their work and their contribution to society.

"The men and women of the three sectors are the pillars of our society and therefore deserve to be honored. We also praise the Metrobank Foundation, Inc. for their annual search of these men and women who inspire others to excel in their work," Enrile said.

Senate Resolution No. 839, sponsored by Sen. Gringo Honasan, recognizes the Country's Outstanding Policemen and Policewomen in Service (C.O.P.S.) of 2012, which was awarded by the Metrobank Foundation, Inc., The Rotary Club of New Manila East and the Philippine Savings Bank. "The Search for COPS recognizes police officers who are models of excellence and who, through their hard work and commitment, have helped change the negative public image that the PNP has seemingly acquired, to ultimately inspire the public to work hand in hand with the police in preventing and solving crimes and maintaining public order in the communities," the resolution stated.

This year, COPS awardees include four from the Police Commissioned Officers Category and six from the Police Non-Commissioned Officers Category, the resolution added.

The four COPS awardees from the Police Commissioned Officers category are Police Superintendent Belli Bagaas Tamayo, Police Chief Inspector Vicente Saspa Cabatingan, Police Senior Inspector Charity Sulapas Galvez and Police Superintendent Bernad Mollanida Banac. The six COPS awardees from the Police Non-commissioned Officers category are Police Officer 3 Eduardo de Guzman Santiago, Senior Police Officer 3 Renjun Ortiz Bagaman, Senior Police Officer 3 Rhia Benigla Sotomil, Police Officer 3 Mary Jane Bicatulo perez, Senior Police Officer 4 Ma. Rosatio Yambao Suarez and Senior Police Officer 3 Robert Umban Fabregas.

Meanwhile, Sen. Ralph Recto sponsored Senate Resolution No. 840, commending the 10 Outstanding Teachers of 2012 awarded by the Metrobank Foundation, Inc. "The accomplishments of these outstanding teachers have not only helped uplift the status of learning in the country, but have also made an ending mark on the lives of our youth," the resolution said.

The 10 Outstanding Teachers of 2012 are Dr. Roberto D. Santos, Jr. of Sta. Rita Elementary School, Capas, Tarlac, Nueva P. Mangaoang of Man-it Integrated School, Passi City, Rizal M. Vidallo of Anabu II Elementary School, Imus, Cavite, Mariam B. Rivamonte of Santa Cruz South Central School, Santa Cruz, Marinduque, Annie I. Rodriguez of Philippine Science High School-Southern Mindanao Campus, Davao City, Bonifacio D. Caculitan, Jr. of Ernesto Rondon High School, Quezon City, Marivi L. Castro? of General Santos City SPED Integrated School, General Santos City, Galcoso C. Alburo of Concepcion Integrated School-Secondary, Marikina City, Dr. Hilda C. Montano of West Visayas State University, La Paz, Iloilo City and Dr. Catherine P. Vistro-Yu of Ateneo de Manila University, Quezon City.

The Senate also honored the Outstanding Philippine Soldiers (T.O.P.S.) of 2012 by virtue of Senate Resolution No. 857 which was sponsored by Sen. Panfilo Lacson.

"The search raises the bar of excellence in the military which other soldiers should emulate, represents the ideals being upheld by the larger sector of the national community represented by both the Metrobank Foundation, Inc., and Rotary Club of Makati Metro and likewise highlights the contribution of the AFP in peace, security and nation building and development," the resolution said.

The recipients of the TOPS awardees are Philippine Army Col. Milfredo M. Melegrito, Philippine Army Master Sergeant Juana R. Hernal, , Philippine Army Technical Sergeant Rolando L. Diomangay, Philippine Navy Captain Erick A. Kagaoan, Philippine Navy , Engineman Third Class Ricky R. Burgos, Philippine Navy Engineman Second Class Arce D. Balasabas, Philippine Air Force Lieutenant Colonel Antonio Z. Francisco, Jr., Philippine Air Force Senior Master Sergeant Augusto D. Reyes, Philippine Air Force Master Sergeant Emerito R.
