Bongbong Marcos: No coup d'etat in the Senate

Senator Ferdinand R. Marcos Jr. quelled any rumor of a brewing power struggle in the Senate, amid speculations from its ranks about alleged dissatisfaction in the leadership of Senate President Juan Ponce Enrile.

"Wala namang coup d'etat sa Senado. Wala kaming namamalayan," Senator Bongbong Marcos categorically said. "I am very much satisfied with the leadership of Senate President Enrile", he clarified. He cited the example of Senator Enrile's able steering of the Senate when it convened as a special court in the impeachment of ousted Supreme Court Chief Justice Renato Corona. "Sa aking palagay, isa siya sa pinakamagaling na nakita kong lider ng Senado", Senator Bongbong confidently added.

Reports of a Senate coup plot once again resurfaced after yesterday's clash between Senate President Enrile and the young Senator Antonio Trillanes IV. Senator Trillanes attacked the Senate President for the latter's actions in pressuring other Senators in speeding up in the Senate the enactment of the law creating the new province of Nueva Camarines, and the latter's alleged connections with former President Gloria Macapagal-Arroyo. Senator Trillanes concluded his verbal tirade by saying that he was leaving the majority bloc in the Senate and joining the minority effective yesterday, September 19.
