SOLID NORTH IS OURS, SAYS DRILON

Team PNoy campaign manager Sen. Franklin M. Drilon on Wednesday/Apr. 24 expressed confidence that the so-called Solid North will go the way of the administration coalition in next month's midterm elections as reflected by the surveys.

Although the handpicked candidates of President Aquino have yet to go to Regions 1 and 2 as a team, Drilon said Team PNoy members, including the President's cousin, Benigno 'Bam' Aquino IV, have gone there individually to campaign.

"The success of the sorties by our individual candidates is reflected in the surveys in Regions 1 and 2 which follow the national results of having eight or nine Team PNoy candidates in the top 12," Drilon said. "We are consistently dominating the polls there."

Drilon made the assertion in wake of reports that the administration coalition is giving up on a bid to crack the Solid North in the face of the claim of the opposition United Nationalist Alliance that the Ilocos Regions were their bailiwicks.

Drilon attributed the strong showing of Team PNoy in the region to the efforts of its coalition partners, particularly the Nacionalista Party in Ilocos Norte, where Gov. Imee Marcos has expressed her support to the administration coalition.

"We are confident that this coalition will hold until May 13," he said.

Drilon revealed that he has also spoken personally to Ilocos Sur stalwart Chavit Singson who has promised him that "a substantial majority of Team PNoy will win in Ilocos Sur."

"We are confident that with our coalition there with various political parties, we will prevail in Regions 1 and 2," Drilon said.
