Sen. Marcos says he'd like to help create more jobs

Given the opportunity in 2016 to serve the country as Vice President, Senator Ferdinand "Bongbong" R. Marcos, Jr. said he'd like to focus his efforts on job creation.

In an interview in the morning TV show "Unang Hirit" on Wednesday Marcos said that if the next President would ask his choice Cabinet portfolio, he would choose DOLE (Department of Labor and Employment).

"Siguro kung mayroon akong hihingin na portfolio, palagay ko gusto kong makatulong sa DOLE," Marcos said.

He noted that one of the biggest problems facing the country today is lack of jobs.

Citing statistics saying that 90 percent of jobs come from the private sector, Marcos said the government's job should be to lay down the enabling environment to encourage growth of the private sector.

In particular, Marcos said the government should focus on SME's (small and medium scale enterprises) which is the biggest contributor to the country's economy.

Among others, Marcos said the government should embark on business-driven infrastructures, lead in the research and development, provide appropriate training, as well as access to credit facilities.

"Maraming maaaring gawin para tulungan ang sitwasyon sa kakulangan ng trabaho dito sa atin ngayon kaya't kung itatanong sa akin, DOLE siguro, iyon ang uunahin ko," sabi ng senador.

If not DOLE, Marcos said he could opt for DOTC (Department of Transportation and Communication) instead. The senator is confident he could contribute towards solving the pressing problems facing the department, including the traffic jams in Metro Manila and lack of public transport.
