Iglesia Filipina Independiente Is For Marcos

Senator Ferdinand Marcos Jr. was invited by the Iglesia Filipina Independiente yesterday led by Ret. Gen. Edgardo Aglipay grandson of Gregorio Aglipay, the founder of the Philippine Aglipayan Church; Obispo Maximo XII Ephraim Fajutaga; Right Rev. Godofredo David, Diocese of Rizal and Pampanga; Right Rev. Joel Porlales, Diocese of Bataan and Bulacan; Right Rev. Emiliano Domingo, Diocese of Cavite and Right Rev. Dindo Ranojo, Diocese of Tarlac, to express their commitment and official endorsement to his Vice Presidential bid in 2016 as they collectively prayed and wished him all the best in accomplishing all the plans he has for the good of the Filipino people.

Marcos' father, the late President Ferdinand Marcos Sr. was a member of the IFI before leaving the Church to marry former First Lady Imelda Marcos whose family members are devout Roman Catholics.

Before members of the Iglesia Filipina Independiente (IFI) Marcos lamented that the culture of division and hate perpetuated by past and present leaders has kept Filipinos from working together towards the faster development of our nation.

"We came to this point because of the change of mindset of our leaders from the past Administrations that instead of uniting us, they caused division and allowed us to fight. They propagated this because of politics and their personal self-interests."

"Rather than telling Filipinos to help one another to improve the Philippines they are saying we are here and you are there because you are our enemies. This is the reason why despite the Filipino people's innate goodness, capability and industry, the Philippines has lagged behind its Asian neighbors."

"Ito ay ginagawa lamang nang dahil sa pulitika, dahil sa sariling kapakanan, dahil sa sariling partido, dahil sa sariling pamilya, dahil sa sariling grupo. Imbes na sabihin na tayong mga Pilipino ay magtulung-tulong para sa pag-unlad ng Pilipinas ay sinasabing kami dito kami, dyan kayo kasi kalaban namin kayo."

Marcos said this is the mentality that he would want to change as part of his advocacy for a more vibrant, engaged and strong Philippines with one action, one vision, one country.

"Isang gawa, isang adhika, isang bansa to fix our government agencies and stop this culture of division."

During the IFI meeting, Marcos also reiterated the need for future leaders of the country to lead by example. He said it is not only enough that they issue public statements but actually do what they are saying.

"First be a good example. Kung sinasabi mo lang na galit ka sa korapsyon at iba naman ang ginagawa mo, anong klaseng halimbawa sa taumbayan yun?"

"Accountability should start from the person on top and not the one down the chain of command. Leadership is not about just ordering people around or being angry when something goes wrong. Ito ay pagpapakita na kung may pagkakamali ako kailangan kong sagutin yan. Kung meron akong weakness of mind, shortness of mind, nag-abuso ako, kailangan panagutan ko yan. Dapat mauna ako para dapat sumunod lahat."

"Leadership starts from the top, not from the bottom. Best leaders lead from the front and not from the back. That's what we have to do," Marcos concluded.
