GUINGONA CALLS ON FUEL-POWERED SERVICES TO ADOPT TRANSPORT GROUPS' VOLUNTARY FARE CUT

SENATOR Teofisto "TG" Guingona III encourages big players in the energy and mass transport industries to follow suit in price decrease after several transport groups voluntarily rolled back on jeepney fare Thursday.

"With the recent cut in fuel prices that led to the transport groups' willful decrease of jeepney fare, it is apt that we consider cutting back on prices of other fuel-powered services," Guingona said.

He also lauded transport groups for their voluntary rollback of jeepney fare. From the minimum fare of P7.50, the first four kilometers will now be priced at P7 in NCR, Region 3, and Region 4.

"We would like to thank these transport groups for having the initiative to reduce the basic fare following the recent drop in fuel prices. More than timely, this exhibit of unity to make life a little better for the Filipino public is necessary," Guingona stated.

The provisional fare decrease was filed by the Alliance of Concerned Transport Organization (ACTO), Federation of Jeepney Operators and Drivers Association of the Philippines (FEJODAP), Pasang Masda, and Liga ng mga Tsuper at Operator sa Pilipinas (LTOP).
