STATEMENT OF SEN. NANCY BINAY ON THE POWER OUTAGE THAT CRIPPLED OPERATIONS AT NAIA TERMINAL-3

Safety of passengers and travelers should always be a paramount priority in the aviation industry, and such incident that adds to the chaos and instability in the light of global terrorism should not be taken for granted because thousands of lives are at stake.

The recent power outage that hit NAIA Terminal-3 is totally unacceptable and poses a serious security issue.

The 5-hour outage has caused outright inconvenience, panic and confusion. Passengers have expressed their frustration and those inside the planes were gripped with fear and uncertainty--and all they got for all the trouble was a hollow apology.

Maraming mga pasahero ang napabalitang ninakawan at walang konkretong ginawa ang pangasiwaan ng NAIA-3 na tugunan ang kaguluhan. A simple sorry is not enough to cover the passengers' inconvenience.

It is deplorable that the Department of Transportation and Communication (DOTC) and the Manila International Airport Authority (MIAA) would pass the blame on Meralco when they should be the one prepared in cases of emergency.

Hindi katanggap-tanggap ang ganitong mga pangyayari sa ating mga paliparan lalu na't isang mahalagang serbisyo ito na nakataya ang seguridad ng bansa.

We need to ensure that those who are responsible and such incidence is avoided in the future because human lives are involved.
