Drilon urges voters: Vote early

Go out there and vote early.

This was the message of Senate President Franklin M. Drilon today, as he urged Filipinos to exercise their right to vote and avoid vote-buying and other forms of cheating in the polls.

Drilon, who is a frontrunner senatorial candidate, appealed to the voting public to perform their civic duties and vote for the people they think would best lead the country for the next six years.

"Importante po na lumahok po tayo sa halalan dahil kailangan natin ang mga lider na disente at tunay na maglilingkod sa bansa," he said.

The Senate leader warned that people who will not vote will have no right to complain if "those who will end up in power are corrupt, or do not know how to properly lead this country."

Drilon added that people should not accept money from candidates or their emissaries in exchange for your votes.

"If you exchange your votes for money or other rewards, make no mistake, you are helping put the corrupt politicians into power, and the whole country will suffer," he stressed.

"So let us safeguard our votes against cheaters and poll manipulators, regardless of the party or candidates that fund them," Drilon said.

He also warned voters not to accept, free of charge, directly or indirectly transportation allowance, food, and drinks during Election Day as these undermine the integrity of the election.

Drilon then called on the people to be vigilant against election fraud and report irregularities immediately to authorities.

"Ensuring an honest election is a duty not only left to the government; it is the responsibility of every citizen of a nation to safeguard their votes," said Drilon.
