SEN. JV EJERCITO: LET'S GIVE 'BATO' A CHANCE

Senator JV Ejercito today expressed support for Philippine National Police Director General Ronald 'Bato' Dela Rosa amid calls against him to resign over the death of a Korean businessman in the hands of rogue police officers.

"Let us give PNP Chief 'Bato' a chance. We cannot expect him to watch over everybody. The PNP has a force of 160,000 individuals and it is close to impossible for him to be their daily guardian. He should also not be faulted for each crime committed by rogue policemen," the senator today said.

To rise above the incident, Ejercito challenged the PNP leadership to ensure a credible and acceptable probe on the slay of Korean businessman Jee Ick Joo and the alleged involvement of police on the 'tokhang for ransom' case.

"The PNP's image has definitely suffered from this incident. There may even be an international backlash because of the foreigner's death in the hands of our own cops. This is why I am challenging PNP Chief Dela Rosa to ensure there would be no whitewash in the investigation. The PNP's handling of this case is crucial to restore credibility and to bring back trust in the police. A few rotten eggs should not reflect the integrity of the whole police force," he said.
