Transcript of Interview with Senate Minority Leader Franklin M. Drilon

Drilon: I am disappointed at the lapses in the customs, to say the least. We can even include corruption. Ang sabi ko nga kay Gen. Lapena, ang smuggling, to a certain degree, ay tanggap ng taumbayan. Pero kung nag-smuggle ka ng droga, that is unforgivable. And I am disappointed at the way things are being handled. Huwag nating kalimutan na libu-libo ang namamatay at pati ang mga kabataan dahil sa wag against drugs. Yet, this war against drug is so ineffective because of the porous customs processes. Doon po nag-smuggle ng droga. Hindi na-e-enforce ang batas tungkol sa custody and destruction of illegal drugs. I am disappointed at the law enforcement aspect of the drugs and the drug war, and thousands are paying for this in terms of loss of lives.

Q: On the part of Vice Mayor Duterte and Atty. Carpio, was the committee able to extract the needed information from them?

Drilon: Except for the unanswered questions on the tattoo...kulang pa.

Q: Ano yung bearing sa anti-drug wag na yung anak ng president ay nali-link sa drugs?

Drilon: That is something that we are looking at but sa ngayon, yung drug war is ineffective because of the corruption in the customs and inability to enforce our laws; and lives are being lost because of this corruption in the customs and the inefficiency of our law enforcement.
