Press Release May 13, 2018 Statement on the Passing of Former Senate President Edgardo Angara I join the entire Filipino nation in mourning the passing of a venerable statesman and our longtime family friend, former Senate President Edgardo "Ed" Angara. Sen. Ed will always be remembered as a trailblazer in education reform. The visionary laws he championed during his twenty-three years as senator - such as the Free Public Secondary Education Act of 1988 and the charters of CHED and TESDA - revolutionized our education system by opening up exciting new learning opportunities for millions of underprivileged Filipinos whose right to education had long been neglected. The legacy of Sen. Ed as a true champion of the people's right to education will continue to serve as an inspiration for me and like-minded education advocates who endeavor to continue his noble work. More than anything, though, I will remember Sen. Ed for his gracious character as a public servant. Throughout his esteemed career, Sen. Ed maintained a deep sense of humility and dedication to public service that endeared him to the people. His celebrated legacy will live on in the hearts and minds of a grateful nation. |
