Senator Juan Miguel Zubiri, chairman of the Senate Committee on Cooperatives and sponsor of the resolutions, said the Land Bank, through the Gawad PITAK, has found the "most exemplary cooperatives this year, especially in the rural communities to it achieve even greater success."

"For its 28th year, the Gawad PITAK has again found a worthy group of cooperatives and one truly inspiring ulirang magsasaka that had exemplified the tenets of cooperativism," Zubiri said in his sponsorship speech.

He said Gawad PITAK had given recognition to cooperatives "that had effected change to the day to day lives of the Filipinos, becoming partners in nation building."

"As the longest running award giving body for cooperatives, Gawad PITAK maintains a rigorous selection process that evaluates candidates in three key areas -- economic growth, good governance and social impact. This triangular system is in service of the spirit of cooperativism," he said. (PM)
