POE WELCOMES EARLY CHRISTMAS BREAK FOR STUDENTS

Sen. Grace Poe has welcomed the Department of Education's (DepEd) move to implement an early holiday break for students on December 15 from the original December 22.

It was Poe, during the deliberations of the 2017 national budget, who suggested an earlier Christmas break to help decongest the capital's main thoroughfares.

"Hindi lang ito makakatulong na maibsan ang matinding trapiko tuwing paparating ang pasko, magkakaroon din ng mas mahabang panahon ang mga estudyante para makapiling ang kanilang mga pamilya sa Kapaskuhan," said Poe, as she thanked DepEd officials for declaring the break a week earlier as planned.

The order, signed by DepEd Sec. Leonor Magtolis-Briones last November 8, covers public elementary and high school students. Teachers will start their break on December 16. However, it is up to the discretion of private schools if they will implement it.

Classes will resume on January 2 next year and last day of classes will remain unchanged on April 5.

"Dapat isaalang-alang din na hindi makokompromiso ang edukasyon ng mga bata," Poe asserted.
