Koko asks LTO to improve issuance of driver's license

Senator Aquilino "Koko" Pimentel III today asked the Land Transportation Office (LTO) to improve the issuance of the driver's license for the comfort and convenience of the public.

Pimentel made the request after he was obliged recently to have his picture taken twice when he applied for the renewal of his driver's license at the LTO branch in Marikina City.

"Dalawang beses ako kinunan ng pictures and digital signatures at different locations," he said. "Hindi ba puedeng isang picture na lang para sa isang driver's license."

He noted that the practice of the LTO is one of the causes for the delay in the processing of driver's license applications, a requirement that is being imposed by the Department of Transportation (DoTr).

The first set of the picture and identification card (ID) is a requirement of the IT company Stradcom for its database, according to the DoTr, and the second set is for Dermalog, LTO's ID license supplier.

"We need to provide our people with fast, efficient and reliable land transportation services and facilities," he said, expressing hopes that the DoTr and LTO would see the urgency to improve the issuance of a driver's license.

Pimentel called the attention of DoTr Sec. Arthur Tugade to review the current practice to make the services being extended to the public at par with the best practices in other countries around the world.
