SENATOR DELA ROSA PUSHES FOR PRO-CHILDREN MEASURES

SENATOR Ronald "Bato" Dela Rosa is bent on pushing for several legislations advocating the welfare of the youth, depicting the closeness of the future leaders of the nation to his heart.

In a media interview on Monday, Dela Rosa expressed his fervent concern and ardor for the children saying that almost half of his ten priority bills filed in the 18th Congress are dedicated for them.

"Mahal na mahal natin ang mga bata, actually in our priority bills marami ang para sa kanila, we love the younger generation, sila ang future ng ating bansa," Dela Rosa said.

These priority measures are the inclusion of substance abuse prevention education in the K12 Curriculum, mandatory ROTC, police scholarships and the establishment of crisis center for street children.

The neophyte senator also said that he will be more careful in choosing words to express his thoughts on certain issues as he apologized to the family of a three - year old girl who died in a legitimate anti-drugs police operation in Rizal recently.

He admitted that he chose the wrong words in his previous statement when he meant "unfortunate incidents do happen."

"Klaruhin ko nalang na (kung) hindi maganda ang dating nun sa parents ng bata na namatay, I would like to apologize to the family yung aking wrong use of term, dapat ang sinabi ko dun instead na 'shit happens', dapat unfortunate incidents do happen, dapat ganun ang aking choice of words," Dela Rosa said.

Dela Rosa even vowed to initiate an inquiry on the case once he assumes chairmanship of the Senate Committee on Public Order and Dangerous Drugs when the 18th Congress opens on July 22.

He assured to prosecute those responsible for the untimely death of Myca Ulpina, saying that her demise is really unacceptable.

"Hindi katanggap-tanggap talaga na sitwasyon 'yun," Dela Rosa said.

As a former police officer, according to him, no one wants anyone killed during operations, especially the innocent people.

"Kahit na di sinasadya yun, may namatay na inosenteng bata kaya dapat mananagot kung sino ang responsable dun kahit na unintentional at di sinadya, dahil may buhay na nakitil, kailangan managot ang dapat managot," he reiterated.
