Senator Bong Go highlights housing options for the poor; files National Housing Development, Production and Financing bill

Bacoor City, Cavite - Citing the National Housing Development, Production and Financing Act of 2019 Senate bill filed together with his nine other priority measures last week, Senator Christopher Lawrence "Bong" Go explained to those who were affected by the fire in Barangay Talaba VII the possible housing options they may avail now to rebuild their homes. Go explained that if the proposed measure becomes a law, these options will be made available to all Filipinos who are poor and left homeless.

In his short message to the fire victims early this week, Go said that there are two options for now as he had initial talks with the National Housing Authority (NHA). He said, "Nakausap ko na ang NHA para roon sa murang pabahay at may dalawang options po kayo. Panahon na rin po na magkaroon kayo ng sarili niyong pamamahay."

In the first option, Go explained that since most of the lands where the houses of illegal settlers are located are privately owned, he proposed that if the titled land owner agrees that the land can be bought through the Community Mortgage Program (CMP), Filipinos could organize their own associations so that they can easily pay the mortgage and eventually own the land.

"Ang unang option, kung papayag ang may-ari ng lupa na ibenta ito through the CMP, ifafinance ang lupa through the CMP. Pagkatapos po noon, pwede kayong mag organize ng association ninyo para makapagbayad kayo ng affordable prices through the CMP upang maging sa inyo ang lupa (once mabayaran)," Go explained to the fire victims.

On the other hand, the government has available housing projects in Naic, Cavite as another option for those left homeless by the recent fire accident in Bacoor. "Mayroon po tayong housing sa Naic at malapit lang ito. Pwede po kayong mag-avail ng murang pabahay mula sa gobyerno," Go said.

Go added that the reason he filed the said bill is to lessen those who currently don't have a home. "Para naman mabawasan 'yung mga walang sariling bahay. Sa susunod na mga taon, wala na dapat squatter sa sariling bayan," he told the public.

Go also addressed barangay officials and employees present, citing that part of his legislative agenda is to protect their welfare and to ensure that their programs for their constituents are properly implemented.

Expressing his empathy for barangay and Sangguniang Kabataan (SK) officials who wish to execute their programs fully in their respective constituencies, Go filed a bill seeking to extend the terms of office of the current officials to give them "ample time and continuity to pursue and implement the programs they have set in their respective jurisdictions."

As committed during the Senatorial campaign, Go has filed a bill calling for the postponement of the barangay and Sangguniang Kabataan elections slated this May 2020 to October of 2022 to give barangay officials ample time to finish their respective programs and projects.

"Mga barangays natin ang pinaka-frontline ng ating gobyerno sa paghahatid ng serbisyo at sa kampanya natin laban sa iligal na droga at kriminalidad. Kaya dapat lang na mabigyan natin sila ng sapat na panahon upang makapagpatupad ng kani-kanilang mga programa at proyekto sa kanilang mga nasasakupan," he said adding that the postponement of the previous brgy elections has limited the term of current officials to only two years.

During his visit in Bacoor, Go also gave the fire victims immediate relief assistance. He offered grocery packs and provided uniforms and school supplies to students so they could go back to school right away. Go also assisted those who needed medical attention and offered to pay the fare for those who want to go home to their respective provinces. He also shared a meal with some TODA members of the barangay through a boodle fight.

"Lapitan niyo lang po ako. Huwag niyo akong ituring na isang senador. Isipin niyo lang po na magkapitbahay tayo," Go said. "Basta ako, handa akong magserbisyo sa inyo."
