Summon mayors, governors disregarding Helmet Law- Revilla

Sen. Bong Revilla warned that all mayors, governors and other local executives who do not implement "Helmet Law" in their respective localities will be summoned before the Senate.

The Senate Committee on Public Services Vice Chairman made this statement after it was discussed during the public hearing Wednesday morning that the country has recorded 30,000 vehicular accidents over the past few years.

Present during the hearing were Metropolitan Manila Development Authority (MMDA) Chairman Danilo Lim and Gen. Manager Jose Arturo Garcia, Land Transportation and Franchising Regulatory Board (LTFRB) Chairman Atty Martin Delgra III, and together with other representatives from his agency.

Road crash survivors gave their personal testimonials which revealed their struggles from recovery to claiming their car insurance benefits. This prompted Bong Revilla to question the lax implementation of the "Helmet Law", which was passed in 2010, in municipalities, cities and provinces all over the country.

It was revealed that there are mayors and governors who forbid the use of helmets to avoid robbery and murder incidents perpetuated by riding-in-tandem suspects.

"Nalilito kasi ang mga nagmu-motor kung sino ang susundin, kapag ganyang naglalabas sila ng kakaibang panuntunan" Revilla explained.

It can be re-called that Bong Revilla filed a bill (S. No. 451) requiring the teaching of basic road safety and comprehensive driver's education as part of the curriculum of the K-12 program.
