STATEMENT OF SENATOR WIN GATCHALIAN ON THE RESIGNATION OF PNP CHIEF OSCAR ALBAYALDE

General Albayalde's resignation from his post as chief of the Philippine National Police would lead to an impartial and credible investigation into the allegations against him and the other policemen involved in the November 2013 drug bust in Pampanga.

However, his resignation should not leave him off the hook from any criminal charges that may be filed against him should his involvement in the "ninja cops" issue be proven.

We call on the DOJ to act swiftly into the reinvestigation of the PNP personnel implicated in drug recycling. Reputasyon ng buong institusyon ang nakasalalay dito kaya sana ay matuldukan ang panibagong imbestigasyon na ito sa lalong madaling panahon.
