On Araw ng Kagitingan, De Lima urges Filipinos to uphold sovereignty, stand up vs oppressive regime

In observance of Day of Valor today (April 9), Opposition Senator Leila M. de Lima has rallied the Filipino public to exert concerted effort in promoting human rights, upholding justice and protecting the country's sovereignty especially amid the oppression and flagrant abuses incessantly perpetrated by the Duterte regime.

In her solidarity message for P1NAS movement on the occasion of Araw ng Kagitingan, De Lima underscored the importance of protecting the interests of the Filipino people and standing up "against a regime who is hell-bent to destroy everything good for which great forebearers have lived, fought and died for."

"Through our will to speak and stand up against this regime of terror will this nightmare end and break apathy that has been used and abused by those who pursue their personal and political gains at the expense of the Filipinos. Magkaisa para ibalik ang kalayaan at hustisya," she added.

The Day of Valor or Araw ng Kagitingan, observed every April 9 of every year, commemorates the Fall of Bataan to Japanese imperial forces during World War II.

For her part, De Lima said one of her efforts to fight for the country's sovereignty was pushing for a bill seeking to declare July 12 of every year as a "West Philippine Sea Victory Day," which she refiled this 18th Congress.

"Sapagkat tagumpay ito na dapat ikinararangal, hindi isinasantabi at ikinaduduwag pang ipagmalaki ng gobyerno," said she.

In a separate statement, De Lima also thanked and honored the courageous soldiers and veterans who showed courage to reclaim the country's national dignity and stand up for the future of the Philippines.
