Poe leads launch of livelihood grant project for displaced jeepney drivers

Sen. Grace Poe led the launching of a project that will provide livelihood assistance grants to deserving jeepney drivers in the National Capital Region and adjacent provinces (NCR Plus).

"We see clearly the extent by which our jeepney drivers' means of living have been jeopardized by the pandemic. We must extend them crucial help so they can pursue an alternative and sustainable livelihood," said Poe, who is marking her 53rd birthday.

The integrated livelihood program under the Department of Labor and Employment shall select 70 deserving jeepney drivers to capacitate them through a P30,000 worth of livelihood package each.

Each driver can avail of a "Starter Kit" or a "Negosyo sa Kariton" (Nego-Kart). The kit aims to help the beneficiary quickly start a livelihood undertaking such as plumbing, electrical servicing, welding, car wash, motorcycle or cellular phone repair, upholstery, appliance, or massage services.

Meanwhile, the Nego-Kart will provide seed capital and resources for vending including carts and other necessary materials and tools to enable the grantee to pursue a micro vending livelihood.

Target beneficiaries must be of legal age, not included in the 4Ps list, residing in NCR Plus, and displaced by the pandemic restrictions or unable to work as a jeepney driver anymore due to comorbidities or related reasons.

Through the Panday Bayanihan relief organization, Poe also earlier spearheaded the distribution of various forms of assistance to public utility vehicle drivers across the country who have been most affected by the pandemic and other calamities. (30)

Pinangunahan ni Sen. Grace Poe ang paglulunsad ng proyektong magbibigay ng tulong pangkabuhayan sa mga kwalipikadong tsuper ng jeepney sa National Capital Region at mga karatig na probinsya (NCR Plus).

"Malinaw nating nakikita ang laki ng epektong idinulot ng pandemya sa kabuhayan ng mga tsuper ng jeepney. Kailangang mabigyan sila ng krusyal na tulong upang magkaroon sila ng alternatibo at tuluy-tuloy na mapagkakakitaan," ayon kay Poe, na nagdiriwang ng kanyang ika-53 kaarawan.

Sa ilalim ng programang pangkabuhayan ng Department of Labor and Employment, pipili ng 70 nararapat na tsuper na pagkakalooban ng 'livelihood package' na nagkakahalaga ng P30,000 bawat isa.

Ang mga benepisyaryong mapipili ay makakatanggap ng "Starter Kit" o "Negosyo sa Kariton" (Nego-Kart). Layon ng nasabing kit na tulungan ang benepisyaryong agad na makapag-umpisa ng kabuhayan tulad ng pagbibigay ng serbisyong elektrikal, plumbing, welding, car wash, pagkukumpuni ng motorsiklo, cellular phone, appliance, upholstery o pagmamasahe.

Samantala, ang Nego-Kart naman ay magbibigay ng paunang kapital at kagamitan para sa pagtitinda tulad ng mga kariton at iba pang materyales upang makapagpatayo ang tatanggap nito ng maliit na tindahan.

Ang mga target na benepisyaryo ay kailangang nasa hustong gulang, hindi kasama sa talaan ng 4Ps, nakatira sa NCR Plus, at nawalan ng trabaho o hindi makapagpatuloy bilang tsuper dahil sa restriksyon ng pandemya, sakit, o iba pang kahalintulad na dahilan.

Sa pamamagitan ng Panday Bayanihan, pinangunahan na rin ni Poe ang pag-aabot ng iba't ibang uri ng tulong sa mga tsuper ng pampublikong sasakyan na pinakaapektado ng pandemya at iba pang kalamidad sa iba't ibang panig ng bansa
