Juan Villamor

He was Born in Banguet, Abra; educated at the Colegio-Seminario de Vigan, Ilocos Sur, and at the San Juan de Letran College, Manila, where he obtained his LL.B. and studied law in the University of Sto. Tomas. He was an interpreter in the Courts of First Instance of Abra and Ilocos Sur, 1886-89; banished to Benguet in 1890 by order of Spanish Governor-General Weyler; required by the friars to join the Spanish Army during the revolution of 1896; became prisoner of the Revolutionary Army in Bataan, and was later ordered by Apolinario Mabini to join the editorial staff of El Heraldo de la Revolucion, then published in Malolos, 1898-99. In 1899, after the surrender of Tarlac, he joined the forces of General Tinio. he was given the rank of colonel of infantry. He continued his journalistic career, as editor of La Nueva Era, after the war with the United States.
He was provincial secretary of Abra, 1901; provincial governor, same province, 1902-04., honorary commissioner to the United States at St. Louis Exposition, 1904; elected member of the first Philippine Assembly from the third district of Ilocos Sur, 1907-09; reelected to same office, 1909-12; provincial governor of Ilocos Sur, 1912-16; and Senator from the first senatorial district (comprising the provinces of Batanes, Cagayan, Isabela, Ilocos Norte, Ilocos Sur, and Abra), 1916-19. He is the author of the book entitled: “General Antonio Luna y Novicio.”
