CELEBRATION OF 1,000 INTERNET-CONNECTED SCHOOLS: Sen. Franklin M. Drilon greets Jaime Zobel de Ayala, co-chairman of the Gearing up Internet Literacy and Access for Students (GIL@S) Project, during the celebration of the 1,000 Internet-connected public schools in the country. The GILAS Project was launched in January 2005 to provide internet connections to computer laboratories in all 5,789 public schools in the Philippines by 2010. Partly hidden is Drilon's son, Patrick, who is writing his undergraduate thesis on the project as a way of bringing quality education to the Filipino youth.
